Jökulsárlón – The Magic of the Glacier Lagoon

Taste over one thousand year old ice at Jökulsarlón is a glacial lagoon, formed by melting ice from Breiðamerkurjökull glacier (Vatnajökull – Euope largest glacier covering 11% of Iceland). Jökulsárlón is 1 of the most wanted sight in Iceland for its uniqe icebergs floating in the lagoon where one can join a 40 min boatrip among the icebergs. The drive from Reykjavik is through the picturesque southern coastline in a 4wd jeep via the village of Selfoss,Vík and by the famous volcano and glacier Eyjafjallajökull glacier which erupted 2010. Enroute is a drive by Mýrdalsjökull glacier, lava filelds black sand deserts of Mýrdalssandur and Skeiðarársandur with stunning view to Vatnajökull glacier and Hvannadalshnjúkur Iceland highest peak 2010 m and a visit to Vatnajökull national park information center at Skaftafell including a short hike to Svartifoss waterfall.
